OSI Industries is a privately owned American company of meat processors based out of Aurora, Illinois. The company supplies some of the largest operations in the retail and food service industries. High profile clients include McDonald’s and KFC. The company began as Otto & Sons over a century ago in Oak Park, Illinois. The name change to OSI Industries came in 1975. With the guidance of Chairman and CEO Sheldon Lavin, OSI has grown to become one of the top 100 food companies in the United States and a global leader in the food industry with operations in 17 countries worldwide. This expansion continues with recent upgrades and acquisitions in the European market. OSI has also developed a reputation for having a family culture in its business operations and for being very environmentally conscious. These attributes have garnered the company several prestigious awards recently.
OSI has recently made €17 million in upgrades to its facility in Toledo, Spain. These upgrades have allowed the company to double its production of processed chicken from 12,000 tons to 24,000 tons per year. The facility is now annually producing up to 45,000 tons of beef, pork and chicken. Along with the upgrades at the existing facility in Toledo, OSI has also made several acquisitions of European food companies that are a great fit for the company’s already robust portfolio. Dutch company Baho Food, a producer of convenience food, deli meats and snacks, along with frozen poultry, pie and condiment producer Flagship Europe have joined the OSI family. The company’s goal with these upgrades and acquisitions is to add new products that will help OSI better serve the needs of its customers as well as attracting new clients.
OSI Industries has received a number of awards over the years for its business practices as well as its commitment to environmental sustainability. 2016 was a particularly successful year in this regard. On February 20, 2016, Chairman and CEO Sheldon Lavin was awarded the prestigious Global Visionary Award. This award is bestowed annually by Indian’s Vision World Academy. The award gives recognition to individuals who have been visionaries in their field and have accomplished greatness through persistence and perseverance. The award was in recognition of Sheldon’s accomplishment of taking OSI Industries from a small U.S. food company to the global powerhouse that it is today. On November 25, 2016, OSI Industries was recognized for its commitment to environmental sustainability by the British Safety Council with the prestigious Globe of Honour Award. This award is given to organizations who consistently show excellence in environmental management. In order to qualify for nomination, a company must meet the British Safety Council’s 5-Star rating. Both of these awards are prime examples of OSI Industries commitment to excellence in customer service and environmental conscientiousness.
